Ignition System - All of the parts of the car which work together to accomplish the task of ignition, that is, providing the spark which ignites the fuel/air mixture in a gasoline engine.

In older cars, this would include the spark plugs, spark plug wires, ignition coil, distributor cap, distributor rotor, distributor body, ignition switch, and related wiring and linkages.

In newer cars, this would include the spark plugs, ignition coil(s), perhaps a spark control module, some kind of a powertrain control module (computer), ignition switch and related wiring and linkages.
