As mentioned elsewhere ( http://www.loveallpeople.org/israel-lobby.html ) the "Israel Lobby" can be defined as "the interconnected group of individuals and organizations who actively seek to promote the political interests of the state of Israel, and who react defensively and decisively to any criticism of Israel or its policies, justified or unjustified." Any person who automatically springs to defend Israel whenever it is criticized, is a member of the Israel Lobby, whether he realizes this fact or not. Reflexive support of Israel, right or wrong, is the defining characteristic of an Israel-Lobby member.
People in the Israel Lobby, while few in number, exert vastly disproportionate power within both major political parties, most major media, and many policy-oriented organizations. How do they do this? two ways: first, by the Power Of Appointment; and second, by the Power of Intimidation.
The Power of Appointment works like this: As soon as they obtain some power in an organization, either by ownership or appointment, they use this power to appoint other Israel-Lobby individuals to important positions within the organization. The other people in the organization do not recognize that the Israel-Lobby people are busy appointing each other to high positions. They probably do not even recognize who the Israel-Lobby people are! For instance, in a newspaper, the individual reporter may not be an Israel-Lobby person. Maybe he's just a normal good journalist, seeking the truth wherever it may lead. But if his editor is an Israel-Lobby person, then nothing very bad against Israel ever gets printed, because the editor cuts it out or waters it down. The Washington Post and New York Times are both clear examples of this (in my Constitutionally-protected opinion.)
The "Power of Intimidation" work like this: If you dare to criticize Israel in any way, they automatically call you an "anti-Semite." To an Israel-Lobby person, any criticism of Israel automatically means that the criticism is "anti-Semitic" and that the critic is an "anti-Semite." In our culture, a charge of anti-Semitism is considered to be a very serious matter. If a person is truly an anti-Semite, that is, if he hates all Jewish people, then he is an evil person, just as if he hated all Black people or hated all Catholics or hated all Europeans or hated all Muslims. Group hatred is always a bad thing in our culture. And for a variety of historical reasons, anti-Semitism is considered to be particularly bad.
However, most charges of anti-Semitism are phony, without foundation. The Israel Lobby over-uses this charge, applying it improperly to anyone who dares to criticize Israel in any way. These criticisms are usually not examples of anti-Semitism, but of intellectual honesty. I, myself, love most Jewish people, and my policy is to try to love all people. But I have serious doubts about Zionism as an anti-American ideology and about Israel as a rogue nation. Does this make me an anti-Semite? No, it does not. It makes me a true American patriot!
Now to the main part: "HOW TO NEUTRALIZE THE ISRAEL LOBBY.
1. Neutralize the Power of Appointment by challenging all suspected Israel-Lobby appointments. In communications media, emphasize the need for fairness, balance and objectivity. There is a great difference between a Journalist and a Press Agent. Don't let the Press Agents for Israel pretend to be legitimate Journalists. Expose them!
2. Neutralize the Power of Intimidation by protecting yourself from
charges of anti-Semitism. To do this, please see this link:

In extreme cases, you can respond directly and proportionately to the attack launched in you. For example, you can say: "If my remarks are anti-Semitic, then yours must Zionist-Fanatical;" or, If I am an anti-Semite, then you must be a Zionist Fanatic."
3. Go around the Israeli-Lobby roadblocks. Send your messages through the channels where they will not be blocked off or watered down. Direct mail is one such channel, but expensive. E-mail is another such channel. Web pages are great. Letters to the Editor or "Comments On The News" pages are good. Even if not published, letters to the editor will have an effect on the employee-readers who evaluate them. Internet newsgroups and discussion groups are good. Use your imagination.
