Introduction

For the last few days, I have been coming back to the idea of "How To Love Other People." This phrase has been sticking in my mind, and it won't go away.

This morning, I woke up with a message from the Lord. He said, "This is your topic, Bill. This will occupy you for the rest of your life."

I love it when He speaks directly to me like that!

So right away, I started thinking about the things I would need to do in order to write about this topic. But He stopped me and said, "Don't think ahead too much. Just let me guide you as we go." Then He brought this verse of scripture to my attention . . .

      "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou
       shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." (Psalms
       32:8 KJV)

After that, He gave me a few preliminary instructions:

First, the topic is "How To Love Other People," and it's supposed to emphasize practice rather than doctrine. "Practice unites; doctrine divides," He said.

Next, I am suppoed to think in terms of a small book, a brief handbook for the practice of Christian love.

He wants most of the content to appear first on my website, in hypertext (HTML) form, and Public Domain. Then later there will be a book, which will be copyrighted and published through normal channels.

The style is to be "bald assertion which can easily be tested," rather than argument from principles. It is supposed to be informal and conversational.

The point of view is supposed to switch smoothly from "we" to "you" to "I," depending on the content at the time.

Then He gave me a few main subject headings and some specific words, including these:

      "I hope this little book leads you to experience the total
       joy that comes only through loving other people."

And He gave me the revelation that the joy we feel through loving others is the exact same joy He feels through loving *us.* I cried when He told me that. It is so beautiful a thought, and so typical of the wonderful way His mind works!

So here we are, starting this project. I'm depending on Him to direct the project, and I will implement my part, with His help. You are invited to come along with us as we go.
