God Requires Different Things From Different People

God requires different things from different people, according to what He has given them.

"Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be
       required;" (Luke 12:48b RSV)
Religious teachers, in particular, are judged more strictly than other people.

"Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know
that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness."
       (James 3:1 RSV)
Others are judged only by the natural law written in their hearts.
        ROMANS 2:14-16 (RSV)
                            The Natural Law
         _____________________________________________________________

        14
When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the
law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though
they do not have the law.
        15
They show that what the law requires is written on their
hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and
their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them
        16
on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the
secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
         _____________________________________________________________
It all depends on what you have been given by God. If He has given you much, He requires much from you.

"But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall
receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him
will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they
will demand the more." (Luke 12:48 RSV)

The Parable Of The Widow's Offering illustrates this idea.
       LUKE 21:1-4 (RSV)

                         The Widow's Offering
         _____________________________________________________________

        1
He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the
               treasury;
        2
and he saw a poor widow put in two copper coins.
        3
And he said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in
               more than all of them;
        4
for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she
out of her poverty put in all the living that she had."
         _____________________________________________________________

Different people also have different requirements for personal purity, according to what God has given them.

"I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean
in itself; but it is unclean for any one who thinks it unclean."
       (Romans 14:14 RSV)

So if your brother has different standards for personal purity than you have, do not judge him.

"Then let us no more pass judgment on one another, but rather
decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a
       brother." (Romans 14:13 RSV)
But above all else, the requirement is to love. This is required of all, more important than anything else.
         _____________________________________________________________

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself." (Galatians 5:14 RSV)
