Jesus Rebukes All Hypocrites

The Satanic trap of hypocrisy is waiting for all of us who ever begin to believe that we are righteous and other people are not.

Satan wants us to think that now that we are saved we have a right to pass judgment on others whom we find to be less righteous than ourselves.

This is a serious snare for us, because we recognize great improvement in ourselves after we are saved, and we can see where others do not yet have that same improvement. But we must resist, and ask God to help us resist, the sin of hypocrisy.

Recognizing this danger in advance, our Saviour spoke clearly to us on this subject: we must avoid hypocrisy.

        MATTHEW 7:1-5 (RSV)

        1
"Judge not, that you be not judged.
        2
For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged,
and the measure you give will be the measure you get.
        3
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye,
but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
        4
Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck
out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?
        5
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and
then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your
               brother's eye.

        MATTHEW 7:1-5 (KJV)

        1
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
        2
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and
with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you
               again.
        3
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's
eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own
               eye?
        4
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the
mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own
               eye?
        5
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own
eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote
               out of thy brother's eye.
