President Bush really seems to like the words, "Deeply Irresponsible." He has used them before in speeches and statements to describe various things he didn't appreciate. You can see this for yourself by clicking here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22deeply+irresponsible%22+Bush&btnG=Search
His friend Tony Blair uses them too, as you can see by clicking here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22deeply+irresponsible%22+Blair&btnG=Search
It is not a good thing to be "Deeply Irresponsible," particularly if you are an elected official. If you are Deeply Irresponsible, then why should anybody ever do what you think they should do? And why should they permit you to continue in whatever office you now hold?
In yesterday's Veterans Day speech, George W. Bush said, "While it's perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began," And when I read this, I thought, "He just now perfectly described his own conduct as President: Deeply Irresponsible."
If you look at some of the main things he has done, or tried to do, you will see what I mean:
1. Social Security - The reckless changes he tried but failed to enact were Deeply Irresponsible, because they would have needlessly endangered one of the most successful government programs ever devised, all for the sake of appeasing his anti-government friends.
2. FEMA and Katrina -A bad appointment to be head of FEMA, plus sloppy oversight, led to a needless disaster when Katrina came along. This was Deeply Irresponsible.
3. The 9/11 Attacks - By disregarding all the warnings, he made it possible for the 9/11 attacks to occur. This was Deeply Irresponsible.
4. Tort Reform - He is trying to change the laws so that when someone is badly injured because of a corporation's negligence, it will be very difficult to sue. This is Deeply Irresponsible.
5. Tax Policy - Huge tax giveaways to the very rich, while borrowing more money to pay the bills: this is Deeply Irresponsible.
6. Privatization of Everything - This takes ownership and economic power away from the people and gives it to the corporations, all in the name of supposed "efficiency." It converts Public to Private. Deeply Irresponsible.
7. Deregulation of Everything - By throwing out necessary regulations, he destroys all structure in competition. Thus the corporations run free to do anything they want. And our economy turns into one big street fight, where the most powerful corporations always win everything, and everybody else loses. Deeply Irresponsible.
8. The Idiot War In Iraq - The stupidest thing this country has ever done. Saddam was totally under control and had already destroyed his weapons, as the Bush administration must have known but chose to disregard. Conceived in delusion, justified by lies, begun without planning, botched on all levels: this war may never end. Needless, reckless, murderous, illegal, immoral, inherently wrong - Deeply Irresponsible.
So in the future, whenever we hear the words, "Deeply Irresponsible," we should immediately think of President Bush. And whenever he uses these words for any reason, we should realize that he is talking about himself.

THE TRAGIC BAD LEADERSHIP OF OUR PRESIDENT - (Ver. 1.1)
September 30, 2004 - by Rev. Bill McGinnis, Public Domain
The broad concept can be summarized as "The Tragic Bad Leadership Of Our President." He has steadily misled us in the wrong directions, for the wrong reasons, using the wrong methods.
Specifically, this paper raises the following broad topics for public consideration: Bush's BAD LEADERSHIP REGARDING ISRAEL (The Source Of Our Problem With Terrorism); THE IDIOT WAR IN IRAQ; THE TAKEOVER OF AMERICA BY UNREGULATED CORPORATIONS; THE WEAKENING OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE; THE ASSAULT ON PUBLIC EDUCATION; TRASHING THE ENVIRONMENT; GROSS MISMANAGEMENT OF THE ECONOMY; THE TWIN FRAUDS OF PRIVATIZATION AND DEREGULATION; UNDERMINING LEGAL PROTECTIONS FOR THE PUBLIC: and GIVEAWAYS TO THE WEALTHIEST AMERICANS, AT PUBLIC EXPENSE.
And we can identify these six "guidelines for action" which he seems to follow in everything he does: 1. "Israel is always right;" 2. "Private is always better than Public;" 3. "Regulation is always bad." 4. "Taxes are bad, but borrowing is good." 5. "Rich people deserve more than poor people do, because they already have more." 6. "Shoot first, think later."
BAD LEADERSHIP REGARDING ISRAEL (The Source Of Our Problem With Terrorism) - In order to curry favor with American Jews, who historically have voted Democratic, George W. Bush made a political decision early in his first candidacy to support Israel, like a robot, in all things right or wrong. Bush deliberately changed the long-time U.S. policy of trying to be fair and even-handed with Israel vs. its Muslim enemies. This happened at a time when Israel had sunk to its lowest level of political leadership under the criminal Sharon. The predictable result of this right-wing alliance with Israel was that all of the moderate Muslims gave up any hope that the USA would help them in any way. Thus they were pushed toward anti-Israel militancy, which then became anti-US militancy also. In their minds, the U.S. and Israel now became equally guilty of Israel's crimes; and civilians in the USA now became targets for terrorism, just as Israeli civilians had earlier become targets for terrorism. And so- the 911 attacks. They never would have happened under Clinton, because the anti-U.S. rage would never have gotten to that critical point of intensity, where the moderate Muslims would be driven to support mass murder of U.S. civilians. But now the entire Muslim world hates us, not because of our "values," as claimed by the Bush apologists, but because of our robotic support of their long-time enemy Israel. So now we have 1.6 billion Muslims around the world who hate us so much that substantial numbers of them are willing to kill themselves in order to kill us . . .
Good job, George.
And if they call you an "Anti-Semite" for daring to criticize Israel, please also see http://patriot.net/users/bmcgin/iftheycallyouantisemite.txt
THE IDIOT WAR IN IRAQ - A total disaster from start to finish, if it is ever finished. It was planned in Israel in 1996, by Israeli citizens (?), including Richard Perle and Douglas Feith (who also have U.S. citizenship), long before the 911 attacks and our resulting War On Terror. If you doubt this fact, you can search the web using this link:
http://www.google.com/search?&q=%22securing+the+realm%22&btnG=Google+SearchIt was never for U.S. security (except for the oil), but for Israel's security. Iraq was a secular Muslim country, under a "strongman" type of government similar to many we have been supporting throughout the world. All of the Islamic radicals were under the iron fist of Saddam, held completely under control. Now we have turned them loose! Soon there will probably be a civil war in Iraq, and a militant Islamic state, allied with Iran, will be the result. Meanwhile U.S. troops get killed and maimed for life, in support of a deluded folly - that somehow a "Free Iraq" will emerge from all of this, friendy to the USA and Israel. In order to promote this folly, the Bush administration juggled the pre-war "intelligence" to make it look like Saddam was a big threat to us, which he never was. So off we went, into an idiot war! A big, expensive, immoral, unjustified, aggressive, ill-conceived, ill-planned project of insanity.
THE TAKEOVER OF AMERICA BY UNREGULATED CORPORATIONS - The Bush administration is fundamentally opposed to any significant Public regulation of corporations. The longer Bush remains in power, the fewer regulations we will see on corporations. His ultimate goal is the have a basically-unregulated corporate America. Here's what this could mean.
UNREGULATED CORPORATIONS ARE LIKE LOOSE ELEPHANTS
by Rev. Bill McGinnis, Director
http://LoveAllPeople.org
Public Domain
Unregulated corporations are like loose elephants wandering around,
trampling over whatever they choose. In general, corporations have
many of the same rights as a human being, but far more power.
They can be very harmful if they choose to trample over people.
Therefore they need to be carefully watched and responsibly regulated,
for the benefit of everyone.
Unregulated profit-seeking corporations can trample over the public in
these six ways listed below. We are talking mainly about the larger,
publicly-traded, profit-seeking corporations like those whose stocks
are traded on the stock exchanges. But the same ideas can apply to any
unregulated profit-seeking corporation, even the smaller ones and the
private ones.
We recognize that profit-seeking corporations can be a great force for
good in the world, creating and providing wonderful goods and services
that would be unavailable by any other means. But we also recognize
that if they are unregulated, they can trample over the public in
these six ways. Unregulated corporations are like loose elephants.
Who can stop them from trampling over whatever they choose?
Here is how they can trample over you . . .
1. NOT PAY TAXES - In order to maximize profits, they always seek to
avoid or minimize their taxes. They seek to shift the burden of
taxation from themselves and onto others. This can lead to political
corruption, in which the corporations seek to buy the favor of elected
politicians in order to obtain favorable tax laws. This is happening
now, rampantly, in the United States, particularly among the
big-business Republicans and their famous efforts to reduce corporate
taxes, pretending to "help the economy."
2. FIX PRICES HIGH -In order to maximize profits, they always seek to
eliminate or control their competition. Once the competition is
eliminated or controlled, they can fix prices as high as they want,
and the customer either pays the price or does without. This is
happening now, rampantly, in the United States. The prime example now
(Sept., 2004) is soaring gasoline prices. The producers have somehow
gotten together to fix the prices, and they blame it on lack of
refining capacity. The Bush administration chooses not to investigate,
and the price fixing continues.
3. CUT WAGES AND SALARIES - In order to maximize profits, they always
seek to reduce their labor costs. Their job is to make profits, not to
be nice to their employees. If they can make more profit by firing
you, they will, if they can get away with it. If they can somehow move
your job to India and save fifty percent or more, they will do it in a
heartbeat. And if some tender-hearted manager objects, they will
replace him with someone who does not object. This is why employees
need unions with the power to strike. And this is why profit-seeking
corporations always oppose unions. And this is why the big-business
Republicans always oppose strong labor unions.
4. TRASH THE ENVIRONMENT - In order to maximize profits, they always
seek to avoid environmental restraints. Their job is to make profits,
not protect the trees or the water or the air. That is somebody else's
job. And if a public-spirited manager objects, they will replace him
with someone who does not object. This also leads to political
corruption, in which the corporations seek to buy the favor of public
officials in order to avoid environmental regulations. Republican
politicians are famous for trying to reduce environmental regulations.
5. SELL KILLER PRODUCTS - In order to maximize profits, they are
tempted to sell dangerous or harmful products. If they are
unregulated, either by direct regulation or by the threat of huge
lawsuits, they will sell whatever they can get away with that makes
them the most money. And if some public-spirited manager objects, they
will replace him with someone who does not object.
Here's exactly how it works: Suppose I have a product which will
probably kill fifty people a year. I am making ten million dollars
profit from the sale of this product, after all expenses, except
product liability expense. If I have to pay an average of $100,000 for
each death, my total death payment will be only five million dollars,
and I will still make five million dollars profit. So I will continue
to sell the killer product. But if I have to pay an average of a
million dollars per death (for each of the fifty deaths), my total
death payment will be fifty million dollars, and I will lose forty
million dollars for the year! So I will surely not sell the killer
product under those conditions.
This is why the Republicans are always seeking "tort reform" - to
minimize the amount of money corporations might have to pay out for
death and injury caused by their products.
6. CONTROL THE NEWS - This is perhaps the most dangerous thing that
can happen: corporations acting together in their own self-interest,
gain control of all the news media and shut off all messages that
interfere with their desires. This has already happened to an amazing
extent in the United States, as a few huge media corporation (with
similar values and interests) have taken control of most of the
important broadcasting and print media in our country. Why do you
think there was no serious U. S. media opposition to this idiot war in
Iraq? Because the media owners, for their own reasons (including
robotic support of Israel), were in favor of overthrowing Saddam. The
owners hire the editors. The editors hire the reporters. If anyone
speaks out against the desires of the owners, he is replaced. That is
how the news gets controlled.
SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
REGULATE THE CORPORATIONS, IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST!
GOVERNMENT REGULATION IS A GOOD THING, A NECESSARY THING,
TO KEEP CORPORATIONS ON A LEASH, NOT RUNNING LOOSE,
UNRESTRAINED BY ANYTHING. THIS IS WHAT GOVERNMENT IS FOR!
These are not new problems. We have faced them before, about a hundred
years ago, and we solved them then, largely under leadership of
President Theodore Roosevelt. But now they have re-emerged in new
forms, under the permissive, look-the-other-way eye of the Republican
party.
President Theodore Roosevelt wrote these words almost a hundred years
ago, They applied then, and they still apply today.
"I hold that a corporation does ill if it seeks profit in
restricting production and then by extorting high prices
from the community by reason of the scarcity of the product;
through adulterating, lyingly advertising,
or over-driving the help; or replacing men workers with children;
or by rebates; or in any illegal or improper manner driving
competitors out of its way; or seeking to achieve monopoly by
illegal or unethical treatment of its competitors, or in any shape
or way offending against the moral law either in connection with
the public or with its employees or with its rivals. Any
corporation which seeks its profit in such fashion is acting
badly. It is, in fact, a conspiracy against the public welfare
which the Government should use all its powers to suppress.
"If, on the other hand, a corporation seeks profit solely by
increasing its products through eliminating waste, improving its
processes, utilizing its by-products, installing better machines,
raising wages in the effort to secure more efficient help,
introducing the principle of coöperation
and mutual benefit, dealing fairly with labor unions, setting its
face against the underpayment of women and the employment of
children; in a word, treating the public fairly and its rivals
fairly: then such a corporation is behaving well. It is an
instrumentality of civilization operating to promote abundance by
cheapening the cost of living so as to improve conditions
everywhere throughout the whole community."
Source: Autobiography of Theodore Roosevelt
THE WEAKENING OF SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
Bush hates government programs of all kinds, unless they
enrich the mega-corporations. Therefore, all of his efforts toward
Social Security and Medicare have aimed to enrich the
mega-corporations.
THE ASSAULT ON PUBLIC EDUCATION
Bush hates government programs of all kinds, unless they
enrich the mega-corporations. Therefore, all of his efforts toward
Public Education have aimed to enrich the mega-corporations.
TRASHING THE ENVIRONMENT
"George W. Bush's assault on the environment . . . has been
so blatant and relentless that even American television now
reports it as a simple fact, like gravity."
Mark Hertsgaard, writing in The Nation
See details at . . .
GROSS MISMANAGEMENT OF THE ECONOMY
Any apparent "improvement" Bush has achieved, has come only as
a result of running up our credit card, which is the Deficit.
Sure, you can feel prosperous for a while if you get an increased
limit on your personal credit cards. But what happens when you
reach the new limits? And what happens when you have to pay it back?
THE TWIN FRAUDS OF PRIVATIZATION AND DEREGULATION
Pretending to be "efficient," they transfer ownership
and economic control from the Public to the Big Investors.
By Rev. Bill McGinnis, Public Domain
"Privatization" is nothing more than the systematic transfer of ownership
from the Public, which is all of us, to the Big Investors, which is the
small percentage of us which owns most of the wealth. Privatization
converts Public property into Private property. By its very nature, it
takes ownership from the Public and gives it to Private Owners. Thus
Privatization causes the Big Investors to become even more wealthy, and
everyone else to become less wealthy. "They own more; we own less."
Sometimes, Privatization begins by transferring ownership to small
investors - the Mom and Pop operations, or other small businesses. But
soon, if they are successful, they are bought out by the Big Investors,
and the end result is exactly the same as if the Big Investors had taken
the ownership in the first place.
Note: Many Americans, including myself, are now "small investors,"
because we have a 401(k) plan or own a few shares of stock
or a small business. But we are not Big Investors, and we
never will be. Our true interests lie with the Public, not
with the Big Investors.
With ownership come the rights of ownership, which determine who has the
rights to use that which is owned. This is the essence of Economic
Control. The Private Owner usually sets the price and other conditions of
use, unless there is some kind of Public Regulation. Thus Public beaches
become Private beaches; Public roads become Private roads; Public
hospitals become Private hospitals; Public schools become Private schools;
Public parks become Private parks; Public armies become Private armies;
Public police forces become Private police forces; Public information
becomes Private information, protected by unconstitutional expansion of
the Copyright laws; the Public airwaves become Private airwaves,
controlled by a handful of giant media owners, who allow only the content
they choose to allow. And on and on and on . . .
Here's a good concept to remember:
"PRIVATIZATION ALWAYS SCREWS THE PUBLIC."
There are two ways by which the Public Interest can be served by Private
Ownership of businesses: and these are, (1) Public Regulation and (2)
Income Taxation. Public Regulation forces the Private Owners to act in a
responsible manner toward the Public; and Income Taxation gives the Public
its fair percentage of the profits gained by allowing the Private Owner to
conduct his profit-making business within the Public economy, enabled and
protected by laws and courts and other Public institutions. Without the
Public economy, the Private Owner would not be able to function. The
Income Tax is a fair and reasonable way for the Public to obtain its
proper share of the profits.
"Deregulation" is the fraternal twin of Privatization. It is the
systematic attempt to remove Public Regulation from Private Ownership of
businesses. And Income Tax Reduction is the systematic attempt to deprive
the Public of its fair share of the profits derived from Private Owners'
businesses operations in the Public economy.
Another concept to remember:
"DEREGULATION ALWAYS SCREWS THE PUBLIC."
Capitalism works fine as long as the Capitalists are properly regulated.
Without proper regulation, they go crazy in their frenzied attempts to get
the best of each other, and they harm everybody in the process.
The supposed justification for both Privatization and Deregulation is
Efficiency. Their supporters like to say that Public Ownership and Public
Regulation are inherently inefficient and wasteful. They like to talk
about "Bloated bureaucracies" and "Incompetent employees slurping at the
Public trough," and "Petty bureaucrats imposing needless burdensome
regulations which hurt business."
And sometimes these criticisms may be true. But the remedy is not
Privatization and Deregulation, because Privatization and Deregulation
lead to murderous competition and ultimately to Monopoly control, which
efficiently steals as much as it wants from the Public by setting prices
artificially high! This is very efficient for the monopolist, but not for
anyone else!
No, the remedy for these bureaucratic inefficiencies is not Privatization
and Deregulation, but better Government. In our country, the People
control the Government. If the Government is sloppy and inattentive and
unresponsive, it is our fault! We need to fix it.
Privatization and Deregulation are two of the biggest frauds ever
perpetrated by the Far Right Wing, the very wealthy Big Investors who form
the natural heart of the Republican Party. (Income tax reduction for Big
Investors is another favorite fraud of theirs.) Pretending to be
"efficient," Privatization and Deregulation transfer ownership and
economic control from the Public to the Big Investors.
But, yes - the Big Investors are right about one thing: Privatization and
Deregulation do improve efficiency - the efficiency of transferring wealth
and power from your pocket to theirs!
Blessings to you all, no matter what your views may be. May you thrive and
prosper in all things.
