NOTE: The World English Bible is still undergoing minor revision for grammar, typing, punctuation; so you might want to check the official website periodically for any changes.
The World English Bible is a modern English update of the well-respected American Standard Bible of 1901. It is the only modern English Bible available today in the Public Domain, which means it is the only one which is legal to copy and use without restriction. All the other modern Bibles are "owned" by various copyright owners, who place restrictions on their use.
I like to use the World English Bible in combination with the King James Bible, which is also in the Public Domain. The World English Bible is easier to understand; the King James is more beautiful and more memorable, at least to me.
