When The Hurricane Approaches

NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I speak it to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it is the same as if I were actually praying for you at that moment. (Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)

         The hurricane is drawing very near,
         The wind is blowing harder, with the rain,
         And everyone fears what might lie ahead.
         
         This prayer is for all people in this place:

         I pray the Lord will intervene for you,
         And make the storm go somewhere else instead,
         Or make it break apart and disappear.

         But if He chooses not to intervene,
         And lets the laws of nature run their course,
         I pray He gives you everything you need
         To deal with this the very best you can.

         I pray He gives you courage, strength of mind
         To face the danger boldly, without fear.

         I pray He gives you clarity of mind
         To take whatever actions that are best.   
         
         I pray He gives to you some extra help
         To somehow sense the things you need to do.

         (Do not ignore His rowboat in the flood,
         While praying for the water to go down.) 
         
         I pray He helps officials do their jobs,
         With competence and courage in their work.

         I pray He raises heros for the tasks
         Of search and rescue, helping to save life.

         I pray that all equipment does its job,
         That everything works as it was designed.  

         But most of all, I pray He gives His peace
         To everyone affected by the storm.  

         And afterwards, when everything is clear,
         I pray He gives you strength to carry on.

         In Jesus' name I pray for you, Amen.
