Prayer And Commentary
The Navigation Of Migratory Birds

NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I speak
it to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it is the same
as if I were actually praying for you at that moment.
(Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch
them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)

              "The Navigation Of Migratory Birds"

The atheists believe there is no God,
And that the universe just made itself.
They think that Evolution can explain,
The many different life forms that we find,
And all the wondrous things that they can do.
            But Evolution never can explain,
The way that birds can travel through the night,
            Navigating only by the stars,
And by a built-in compass in their heads.
There is no way these things could have "evolved,"
            By randomly mutating different genes,
For far too many genes would be involved,
For it to ever happen just by chance.

                *            *            *

So Lord, we pray that You will enter in,
And open up their eyes to see the truth:
That Evolution is a big mistake,
And that You are Creator, after all.
In Jesus' holy name we pray, Amen.

                NAVIGATION SYSTEM OF MIGRATORY BIRDS

ABOUT BRITANNICA ONLINE

This page is a series of "brief excerpts" from Britannica Online, a
good first source for finding out about anything. The advantage of
starting with Britannica Online vs. an Internet search is that all the
information in Britannica is "moderated" by respected authorites, so you
won't obtain any wacko information. Then, once you are properly oriented
to your subject, you can search the Internet for greater variety and
detail.

I searched on "bird AND navigation AND magnetism" to obtain this
information.

ANIMAL BEHAVIOR
    NAVIGATION AND ORIENTATION

[Index] [Index] Migrants often return to breed in the exact locality
where they were hatched or born. This journey homeward, particularly
that of birds, may cover thousands of miles.

[Index] Homing experiments have demonstrated the ability of animals to
   orient themselves geographically. (Details)

FAMILIAR LANDMARKS

It is apparent that homing animals use familiar landmarks; both random
and oriented searches have been observed in birds and fish. (Details)

Familiar landmarks and exploration do not, however, explain how
migrants find their way along routes covering many hundreds or
thousands of miles nor do the results of most homing experiments.

THE COMPASS SENSE

A [Index] compass sense has been demonstrated in birds; that is, they
are able to fly in a particular constant direction, regardless of the
position of the release point with respect to the bird's home area. It
has also been shown that birds are capable of relating the release
point to their home area and of determining which direction to take,
then maintaining that direction in flight. The navigational ability of
birds has long been understood in terms of a presumed sensitivity to
both the intensity and the direction of the Earth's magnetic field.

CELESTIAL NAVIGATION

Experiments have shown that the orientation of birds is based on
celestial bearings. The Sun is the point of orientation during the
day, and birds are able to compensate for the movement of the Sun
   throughout the day. (Details)

Migrant birds that travel at night are also capable of directional
orientation. Studies have shown that these birds use the [Index] stars
   to determine their bearings. (Details)

SUMMARY

It is known, then, that birds are able to navigate by two types of
orientation. One, simple and directional, is compass orientation; the
second, complex and directed to a point, is true navigation, or goal
orientation. Both types apparently are based on celestial bearings,
   which provide a navigational "grid."
